Monday Muscle Injury Prevention: The Heart - Part 1

The heart is susceptible to different types of diseases. Some of the common cardiovascular conditions include hypertensive heart disease, ischemic heart disease and inflammatory heart disease. Types of hypertensive heart disease include aneurysms, high blood pressure (also known as hypertension) and peripheral arterial disease. Types of ischemic heart disease include angina, coronary heart disease and heart attack. Types of inflammatory heart disease include cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease and valvular heart disease.

Injury Prevention – Here are a few tips to reduce your risk of heart disease:

1. Don’t smoke or use tobacco products. If you do smoke, make a strong effort to quit. Smoking and using tobacco is detrimental to your heart because they cause harsh chemicals to damage blood vessels and arteries.

2. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Getting at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week can help you avoid conditions that put strain on your heart, especially extra weight. Carrying extra weight makes your heart work harder and is usually a result of diabetes and high blood pressure.

3. Eat a healthy diet. Try to eat a healthy, well balanced diet. Your diet should be rich in vegetables, fruits and lean proteins. Also watch the amount of fats, sodium and alcohol you consume.

Exercise – Check out my next post and I’ll show you how to do a great exercise for your heart.
