Monday Muscle Injury Prevention: The Heart - Part 2

In my last article (which you can read here), I told you about heart disease. Today’s Monday Muscle Injury Prevention is about coronary heart disease, which is the most common type of heart disease. Coronary heart disease is caused by the buildup of plaque in the arteries. This plaque buildup can cause the arteries to harden or narrow. The plaque that builds up in the arteries is made up of fat and cholesterol. When the plaque builds up, it causes a decrease of blood flow which can eventually lead to a heart attack.

Injury Prevention – Here are a few tips to prevent coronary heart disease:

1. Learn how to manage stress. Managing stress will not only help to improve your physical health, but will also help to improve your emotional health. Learn how to deal with problems and situations in a healthy way and find a way to relax more.

2. Maintain a healthy diet. A diet that is low in saturated fats, salt and sugar can help reduce your risk for coronary heart disease. A diet high in fiber and healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids will also help reduce your risk for coronary heart disease.

3. Maintain a healthy weight. The best way to maintain a healthy weight is to eat a healthy diet and stay physically active. An unhealthy amount of extra weight makes your heart and the rest of your organs have to work harder. Think about how YOU feel when you are overworked….
